June 2020 President's Report

This year has flown by, and I can’t believe it’s already been a full year since I’ve taken over as president of PRAL-BR. While the last few months haven’t gone as originally planned, we’ve still accomplished a lot. Since last June, we’ve:

  • Increased our monthly membership meeting attendance at our new location of Sullivan’s Steakhouse.
  • Grown our social media presence and added followers across all of our platforms.
  • Redesigned our monthly newsletter with more useful information for members.
  • Added a post-graduate professional membership category for new graduates and enhanced benefits for current members.
  • Streamlined the process for new member applications and approvals.
  • Established a strategic plan for the organization that helps drive our decisions.

And, most importantly, we’ve laid some important groundwork to build upon moving forward.

This has definitely been a year of growth and change for our organization. Despite all of the things we do well, we can always do better. This includes the way we approach diversity and support those in our community who are affected by racism and racial inequality.

PRAL-Baton Rouge stands in support of our Black members and our entire Black community, and we do not condone discrimination, racism or racial injustice anywhere in our communities or in the organization. As PR professionals, we pride ourselves in open and strategic communication. We will use this as an opportunity for dialogue on how we can all be better individuals and how we can use our skills as professional communicators to lead those around us to a better understanding of racial inequality to bring about positive change.

The new board will take over on July 1, and this will surely be an area we work on in the coming year. We’ll also be focused on building out our mentorship program, better engaging all of our members and recruiting a more diverse membership base across industry, gender, race, etc. We’ll be meeting in early July for our annual strategic planning retreat. Please reach out if you have any ideas or suggestions that you’d like us to consider as we move into a new year.

I’d also like to say thank you to our current board for their hard work this year. This was truly a team effort, and PRAL would not have seen the success we did without each and every one of you.

Have a great summer, and stay safe!

Sincerely,
Caroline Isemann
PRAL-BR President
